Subject: C4L and Government Accountability
Dear Congressman Paul:
The purpose of this letter is to request the podium
for a few minutes at the Rally for The Republic on
September 2nd in Minneapolis to convey a
most important message about government
accountability in defense of the Constitution.
In its Statement of Principles, the Campaign for
Liberty laments the fact that, “Anyone who tries to
ask fundamental questions instead of cosmetic ones
is ridiculed or ignored.” The Statement goes on to
say, “That’s why this Campaign for Liberty was
established: to highlight the neglected but
common-sense principles we champion and reinsert
them into the American political conversation.”
Bravo: sorely needed. We are in full support.
However, with all my heart I beg you not to discount
the original intent of the last ten words of the
First Amendment– the accountability clause. As you
undoubtedly know, our Rights do not depend upon the
will of any majority, neither one more than half the
number of people voting in our precincts, the
Congress, or the courts. Because it is not
possible to elect our way out of tyranny, the
First Amendment Redress Clause was designed to work
in tandem with the electoral process as well as
other checks and balances to hold the Government
accountable to the Constitution.
Please do not fail to give recognition to what the
scholars call the “Capstone” Right in your program.
Our Foundation's civic initiatives and legal
activities in defense of the Right to Redress have
been built upon a body of irrefutable academic
research by legal scholars.
Given the current state of world and domestic
affairs, and our Government's growing disdain for
the Constitution, I believe we would be wrong to, in
effect, encourage the People to rely solely on the
electoral process to cure what ails and threaten our
Republic.
I’ll be delivering this letter to your Capitol Hill
office today by Fax and email. An early response
would be greatly appreciated. If you desire,
following an estimate of available speaking time, I
would be pleased to make a copy of my proposed
remarks available for your approval.
Sincerely,
